Software Processes
- How does my company retain control of the off-shored work?
We provide as much visibility into the process, as required by the customer.
We follow an incremental model. We make executable deliveries every 4~6 weeks.
Our normal interactions with customers are emails about schedules, amendments to schedule, weekly status reports, defect reports.
Our project process mandates that: all discussions to be recorded and informed to the complete team by email, time logs be maintained in the form of weekly plans, weekly status, work plan and work done mails, all artifacts for review are sent by email, all comments are sent to the team by email, all minutes of meetings are recorded and sent to the team. If the customer wishes they too can receive all these email and intervene.
- How does my company protect its intellectual property?
If it is IP that will affect your competitive position we would not like to hold it. Though in other BUs we are dealing with such IPs. But since we are going to be maintaining we would not be dealing with IPs that are critical to competitive position.

- Why acmet Tools BU did not go for any certification?
Our Japanese customers have not asked us to get any certification. They have direct experience of our process.
We in the Tools BU believe, it is important to first develop a process that suits our business environment and our quality goals. This takes time to develop. It cannot be copied from a manual. We have now had one for the past couple of years.
We are now looking at the requirements for getting CMMI certification.
- What is your mode of communication with the customers?
Since the Tools BU has dealt only with the Japanese, our primary mode of communication is via email. But in the other BUs that have customers in the US, regular interaction by phone takes place. MCCI has placed vonage phones at acmet for handling phone communication with their support team at acmet.
- How can acmet Tools BU ensure utmost transparency of the off shored work?
The Tools BU is looking to maintain programming tools, mainly C compilers, the interface to the tool users would have to be someone from the vendors team. The customer relationship has to be maintained by the vendor. The user does not know who is doing the work unless the vendor chooses to make it known. We have been maintaining C compilers for our Japanese customers for so many years now. Their users know nothing of us. If however, the compiler vendor wants us to play a more visible role we can do that too.
